San José State’s homecoming game ended in disappointment Friday night as Wyoming rallied for a 16-13 overtime victory at CEFCU Stadium. The Spartans dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West play after taking a 13-6 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Jabari Bates scored his first touchdown of the season and finished with 69 rushing yards to lead the San José State ground game. Quarterback Luke Weaver completed 26 of 38 passes for 251 yards, while Trajan Sinatra supplied two field goals as the Spartans built their lead.
The defense gave San José State opportunities to close the game. Dylan Lee recorded his second career interception, and the Spartans held Wyoming to six points through three quarters. The Cowboys nevertheless found the tying touchdown early in the fourth, and neither offense scored again before overtime.
Wyoming converted a short field goal in the extra period, while San José State could not answer. The result ended the Spartans’ bid for a fifth consecutive home victory over the Cowboys and shifted attention toward an October 17 road game against UTEP.
