San Jose is bringing a full Bay Area crossover to PayPal Park this weekend. The Earthquakes will debut “The Dead Kit” — their new Grateful Dead x adidas secondary jersey — during Grateful Dead Night when they host Atlanta United on Saturday, Feb. 28. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT, with the match airing on Apple TV.
The jersey release is more than just a new look for matchday. MLS said the kit is inspired by the Grateful Dead’s psychedelic roots and specifically honors the band’s first 1965 show in San Jose, leaning into the connection between music, culture, and community that’s always been part of the region’s identity.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Earthquakes’ Grateful Dead set includes a blue tie-dye design featuring the band’s iconic skull logo, and fans attending the match are also expected to receive a commemorative poster designed by legendary Dead artist Stanley Mouse, while supplies last.
For fans trying to grab the kit ahead of time (or after seeing it on-field), the club has been directing purchases through EpicenterShop.com, tied to the team’s official launch rollout at PayPal Park earlier this month.
On the soccer side, the Grateful Dead Night match also continues San Jose’s opening homestand after the Quakes’ 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, where defender Daniel Munie scored a brace and earned MLS Team of the Matchday honors.
Saturday is shaping up as a mix of new-season momentum and a new-season identity — with the Quakes putting their most Bay Area kit yet on the field, in a game that doubles as one of the club’s first major home spotlights of 2026.
