Harrison, N.J. — May 31, 2026: Gotham FC closed out the first half of the NWSL season with another statement defensive performance, defeating the Houston Dash 1–0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Rookie forward Jordynn Dudley delivered the match’s lone goal in the 18th minute, continuing her strong start to life in the league. After receiving a pass from club captain Tierna Davidson near the edge of the box, Dudley created space, cut inside, and fired a composed finish past Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell to give Gotham the early advantage.
The goal proved to be enough for a Gotham side that has built its season around defensive discipline and control. From there, the home team managed the tempo, limited Houston’s chances, and kept the Dash from finding a rhythm in the final third.
Houston had moments early in the match, including a chance from Avery Patterson and a shot on target from Leah Klenke following a corner kick, but Gotham goalkeeper Shelby Hogan stayed alert to preserve the clean sheet. Jane Campbell also kept Houston in the match with multiple key saves, including stops on Esther González in both halves.
Gotham controlled much of the game, finishing with 15 shots, seven on target, and nearly 60 percent possession. The team’s pressure continued after halftime, with González nearly producing a highlight-reel bicycle kick in the 52nd minute, but Campbell was positioned well to deny the attempt.
For Gotham, the win marked another impressive defensive milestone. The club recorded its league-leading eighth shutout of the season through 11 matches, further proving itself as one of the most difficult teams to break down in the NWSL.
The victory moved Gotham to 6-2-3 with 21 points and extended its unbeaten run in league play to six matches. For Houston, the loss ended a short stretch of positive momentum after collecting four points from its previous two matches.
Gotham now heads into the NWSL break with confidence, while Houston will look to regroup before returning to league action in July.
