Macklin Celebrini returned to the San Jose lineup and scored his first goal of the season, but the Edmonton Oilers left SAP Center with a 3-1 victory Saturday. Celebrini had missed the previous two games with a lower-body injury and led the Sharks in ice time in his first game back.

Mattias Ekholm opened the scoring in the first period before Edmonton broke the game open early in the third. Vasily Podkolzin finished a Connor McDavid setup to make it 2-0, and Alex Formenton added another goal less than three minutes later. The Oilers improved to 4-0-1 and extended their winning streak to four games.

Celebrini answered at 11:19 of the third, taking a feed from Michael Misa and scoring from the left faceoff circle. The goal cut the deficit to two, but San Jose could not generate another breakthrough against Tristan Jarry, who finished with 19 saves.

Yaroslav Askarov stopped 17 shots for the Sharks, who fell to 3-2-0. The afternoon also marked Darnell Nurse’s first game against Edmonton since the Oilers traded the longtime defenseman to San Jose in July.
