Oakland Roots SC earned a point in its pursuit of a playoff spot Saturday, holding Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to a 0–0 draw at Weidner Field. The October 3 result marked Oakland’s third consecutive clean sheet. According to the club’s match recap, Roots sat ninth in the Western Conference, just outside the top-eight playoff places, following the draw. Colorado Springs put Oakland under sustained pressure, finishing with 18 shots to Roots’ four. The hosts also led 4–1 in shots on target, but goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh and Oakland’s defense kept them off the scoreboard. After a relatively even opening, the Switchbacks began controlling more of the action around the 35th minute. Their pressure continued after halftime before Oakland found more attacking opportunities late in the match. The result showed the value of Roots’ defensive form. Keeping opponents scoreless has given Oakland a foundation, but Saturday’s limited attacking output also highlighted the challenge of turning that stability into wins. Roots now return home to face San Antonio FC on October 10 at 7 p.m. PT at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. It is their final regular-season home game of 2026. Oakland’s remaining schedule then takes the club to FC Tulsa on October 17 and Sacramento Republic FC on October 24. With three matches left, the San Antonio meeting is Oakland’s last scheduled opportunity to chase points in front of its home supporters.
