The Washington Commanders picked up a huge 33-31 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, with Marcus Mariota delivering when Washington needed him most. With Jayden Daniels sidelined by an elbow injury, Mariota stepped into the starting role and nlooked more than comfortable running the offense. The veteran quarterback completed 19 of 31 passes for 183 yards, throwing three touchdowns without an interception and finishing with a 110.0 passer rating.
Mariota also connected with Terry McLaurin for a 30-yard touchdown in the second half, helping Washington maintain control against a Seattle offense that continued to fight back. The Commanders may not have matched Seattle’s total offensive production, but they made the most of their opportunities and played a much cleaner game. Washington’s defense also played a major role, forcing three turnovers, including a late interception returned for a touchdown that proved to be one of the biggest plays of the afternoon.
Seattle made things interesting late, but the Commanders were able to finish the game and walk away with one of their biggest wins of the young season. With Daniels out, Mariota showed that Washington can still operate at a high level and compete with some of the league’s best teams.
