SAN JOSE, Calif. — Chivas de Guadalajara walked away with their second loss In the Leagues Cup in a sold out crowd at PayPal Park. Falling 1-0 to FC Dallas, Guadalajara seems to have lost their groove from a strong first half of the year.
For most of the night, Chivas looked like the more dangerous team. Chivas, led by LIGA MX 2 time top goal scorer, Aramdno ‘La Hormiga’ Gonzalez- repeatedly pushed into FC Dallas territory and created opportunities around the penalty area, but the finishing touch never came. Even with the addition of Angel Sepulveda- with two 9’s up front- Chivas could not see the back of the net. FC Dallas goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois stood firm when called upon, keeping Chivas off the scoresheet.
The match remained scoreless deep into the second half before FC Dallas finally broke through in the 73rd minute. Logan Farrington found the back of the net after a setup from Santiago Moreno, giving Dallas the lead and ultimately the victory.
On paper, Chivas has a team that can win it all at the Liga MX level. Guadalajara has players who have had outstanding seasons at Chivas and players who were in the Starting XI at the WC representing Mexico. Roberto ‘Piojo’ Alvarado came off a strong performance at the WC with Mexico starting every game and being in the top 10 with his 3 assists. Bryan Gutierrez, who started the first game vs South Africa has to yet find his confidence back and get back to his creative play style. La Hormiga Gonzalez- Chivas’ top scorer has not been at his best form ever since returning from the World Cup. With only 14 playing minutes played in his 1st World Cup appearance- he still seems to not find his previous form.
Chivas will be facing off against Seattle this coming Thursday 8/13/2026, in a game that might not mean much for Guadalajara, but may be able to change the momentum and get them to their winning ways again.
