OEIRAS, Portugal — June 6, 2026: Portugal earned a 2–1 win over Chile in a tense international friendly that featured goals, red cards, and late drama. After a competitive first half, Portugal found the breakthrough through Gonçalo Guedes, who came off the bench and finished calmly after a well-timed pass from Rúben Neves. Bruno Fernandes later doubled Portugal’s lead with a strong finish in the second half.

The match turned physical before halftime when Portugal’s Rafael Leão and Chile’s Iván Román were both sent off after an on-field altercation. The red cards changed the rhythm of the game, but Portugal stayed composed enough to control the second half.

Chile pulled one back late through Lucas Cepeda, but Portugal held on for the victory as it continues preparing for the World Cup. For Portugal, the win was important, but the bigger concern will be whether Leão faces additional discipline before the tournament begins.
