Bay Area culture has always moved to its own rhythm. On Wednesday, July 29, that rhythm will take over PayPal Park as Bay FC hosts the club’s first-ever Hip Hop Night during its matchup against reigning NWSL champion Gotham FC.
The evening will bring together two worlds that share more in common than they may initially appear to: soccer and hip-hop. Both are built on creativity, individuality and community, making Bay FC’s newest theme night a natural celebration of the region the club represents.
From the moment gates open at 5:30 p.m., fans will be welcomed by a full lineup of local entertainment. FanFest will feature music from Prospect Band, performances by the Fallon Middle School Hip Hop Dance Team, classic vehicles from Blvd Bombs Car Club and breakdancers from Oakland-based organization TURFinc. Activities will also include face painting, soccer games and giveaways for families throughout the stadium.
The first 4,000 fans through the gates will receive a limited-edition Bay FC Hip Hop Night poster featuring Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B., who will headline the celebration with a special halftime performance. TURFinc’s dancers will also perform on the Bay FC Bridge Stage during the break.
A leading figure from the Bay Area’s Hyphy movement, Mistah F.A.B. represents more than the music associated with the region. The Oakland artist has also built a reputation as an entrepreneur, mentor and community activist, making his involvement a meaningful connection between the club and the communities surrounding it.
Mistah F.A.B. is also familiar with the Bay FC stage. He previously performed ahead of the club’s 2025 match at Oracle Park, an event that drew a then-club-record crowd of 40,091 fans. His return gives Bay FC another opportunity to showcase an artist whose career and identity remain closely tied to Oakland and the wider Bay Area.
The night will also spotlight Filipino singer Alisah Bonaobra, who will perform the national anthem before kickoff. Bonaobra finished as the runner-up during the second season of The Voice of the Philippines, adding another layer of local and international culture to the evening’s lineup.
While the celebration extends beyond the field, an important match awaits once the opening whistle sounds.
Bay FC enters the contest looking to climb the NWSL standings and earn a different result against one of the league’s strongest teams. Gotham defeated Bay FC 3–0 when the clubs met in New Jersey earlier this season, despite goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz tying a Bay FC record with 12 saves. Bay FC will now attempt to close the season series on a stronger note in front of its home supporters.
Gotham arrives at PayPal Park with an experienced roster and one of the league’s most difficult defenses. That presents a major challenge for Bay FC, but also an opportunity to turn the energy surrounding Hip Hop Night into momentum on the field.
For Bay FC, the occasion represents more than another theme match. It is an opportunity to create a matchday experience that reflects the music, movement, fashion and independent spirit that have shaped Northern California for generations.
Women’s soccer will provide the stage. Bay Area culture will provide the soundtrack.
